Speech Therapy

Language is essential to learning, working, and enjoying family life and friendships. Although there are many ways to express oneself without verbal language, speaking is far and away the most common method.  Speech-language pathologists (SLP's), often referred to as speech therapists, are professionals trained and educated to assess speech and language development and to treat language and speech disorders.

At TERRIO Therapy-Fitness and TerrioKIDS, we provide speech language services for both adults and children.  Our lead therapist, Melanie Frank, received her BA from Peperdine University, and her Master's degree from San Francisco State University in Communicative Disorders.  Our therapists provide services for the following, among others:
  • - Auditory Disorders
  • - Brain Injury
  • - Cerebral Palsy
  • - Developmental Delay
  • - Down's Syndrome
  • - Feeding/Swallowing Disorders
  • - Hearing Impairments
  • - Mental Retardation
  • - Oral-Motor Disorders
  • - Seizure Disorders
  • - Speech & Language Disorders

Our speech pathologists can also help people with swallowing disorders (dysphagia) caused by strokes, accidents, disease, or other oral impairments.  If you recognize any of the following signs, please ask your doctor if seeing a speech pathologist might be right for you.
  • - Coughing during or right after eating or drinking
  • - Wet or gurgly sounding voice during or after eating or drinking
  • - Extra effort or time needed to chew or swallow
  • - Food or liquid leaking from the mouth or getting stuck in the mouth
  • - Recurring pneumonia or chest congestion after eating
  • - Weight loss or dehydration from not being able to eat enough
